Meet the founder

Kath Simpson
Founder & Creative Director

Kath is a creative specialist with 20 years’ experience in graphic design and a master’s degree in Innovation Management from Central Saint Martins. Working as a senior designer at Macmillan Cancer Support and other well-known charities helped cement her belief that design has the power to help transform lives.

Kath’s passion for strengthening how purpose-driven brands communicate, and championing the value of design and creativity, led her to found Creative Switch in 2016. Since then, alongside a team of trusted specialists, she’s delivered propositions, brand identities, campaigns, creative strategies and training to a range of organisations from national charities to business start-ups.

Our Approach

We believe that great design can unlock value in any organisation, be it in awareness, experience, income generation or market position. To help our clients achieve their aims, we use an inspirational and pragmatic approach; a method both tried-and-tested and flexible, delivering dynamic results.


Through four clear stages, we define the challenge and find its creative solution. First, we Discover insight into the problem and Define a clear design opportunity - so we know we’re on the right track. Then we Develop design concepts and Deliver the creative project.

  • We ask questions and listen - to the client, the user, the audience - so we clearly understand the challenge. This research may take different forms such as interviews, audits, workshops, desk research, and competitor analysis.

  • With all the insight gathered from the first stage, we define the area of focus until we have identified a clear design opportunity.

  • This is all about concept creation and validating different routes that creatively solve the problem; that meet the design opportunity. We then stress-test, iterate and refine the idea until we get it right.

  • In this last stage, we deliver final designs for production or launch which might be in the form of a campaign, a brand identity, strategic recommendations, a proposition or a report.
